Travelling with nicotine pouches
If you’re travelling with nicotine pouches abroad, you’ll always want to check and be aware of the guidelines surrounding the security protocols at check-in to ensure your passing through is as seamless and hassle-free as possible. Most airlines and airports will have routine restrictions in place such as only specific amounts of liquids being allowed, but the question that may be on your mind which has bought you here is “Can you take nicotine pouches on a plane?” And the simple answer is…Yes you can!
But even though these are permitted to be carried on to planes, you must still be mindful and respectful of the guidelines, as failure to do so will likely see them confiscated from you and you’ll be stuck on a long-haul flight with no access to getting your nicotine fix which is not what you want! I’ll explain in this article what to do when it comes to travelling with your nicotine pouches to ensure a smooth process for all involved!
Travelling with Nicotine Pouches
For the benefit of this article, I will reference the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines as written out on their website regarding travelling to the USA with Nicotine Pouches in your luggage.
The TSA do not class Nicotine as a “harmful” substance, and it is permitted to be carried aboard flights. Nicotine Pouches fall in the same category as Nicotine Gum, patches and other forms of Nicotine Replacement Therapy that comes with no restrictions.
However, there are restrictions on vape juice that contains nicotine as that forms part of a different regulation which I will cover a bit further down in this article.
The TSA do state that “powder-like substances greater than 12oz/350ml must be placed in a separate bin for X-Ray screening and may be subject to additional screening and may need to be opened upon request by TSA staff. For your convenience, we recommend you put any powders greater than 12oz in your checked baggage”
This equates to around 20 individual cans of Nicotine pouches, which you’d struggle to get in your hand luggage anyway, but it’s worth taking note of just so you are aware of these policies.
I’d imagine most airlines will have the same policies and procedures in place when it comes to travelling with Nicotine pouches, but always check prior to flying as you don’t want to get caught out.
Where do I store my nicotine pouches?
Nicotine pouches can be stored in either your carry-on luggage, or your checked luggage. Checked luggage is a name for the larger suitcases that get checked and loaded on to the plane prior to flying, and your carry-on luggage is exactly that, a carry-on bag that stays with you at all times in the overhead storage on a plane.
It goes without saying that if you want to access your nicotine pouches during your flight, it’s essential you put them in your carry-on luggage, as you will still be able to access them during the flight. If they are in your checked baggage, you can’t access it until you land at your destination airport, and this will likely be a very long flying experience for you without nicotine!
Can I use Nicotine Pouches on a plane?
Of course you can! And this is one of the huge benefits of using nicotine pouches, as they are an odourless and smoke-free alternative for you to get your nicotine fix. The size and design of nicotine pouches are purposefully discreet and subtle, so nobody would even notice when you are using one!
It is absolutely crucial that you dispose of your used nicotine pouches in the correct and hygienic manor, as this is just common courtesy to those around you as well as the cleaning staff of the airplanes. Most to nearly all Nicotine Pouch cans have a separate compartment on the top of every can where you can put your used pouches once you remove them from your mouth. Then when you get to your destination, discard the used pouches in a bin. Don’t be that person who just chucks them on the ground!
Travelling with E-Cigarettes and E-Liquid
I will briefly touch on this subject as some of our customers may be users of Nicotine pouches, but also still use an E-Cigarette as their Nicotine Replacement Therapy option (myself being one of them!)
The regulations on E-Cigarettes are quite stricter than the ones surrounding travelling with Nicotine Pouches, and it’s essential you read up and understand the regulations fully if you intend on travelling with an E-Cigarette or bottles of E-Liquid.
All E-Cigarettes must be kept in your carry-on luggage, and none stored in the hold luggage, as the pressure in the hold could lead to combustion and cause no end of problems for all on the plane. Take your batteries out of your device if it uses external batteries and store them in a hard plastic carrying case.
Empty your tank of any e-liquid before flying as the pressure in the cabin can cause leakage of vape juice all over the contents of your bag (I speak from experience…) and DO NOT use your device on the plane! No airlines permit smoking or the use of E-Cigarettes at any time on planes, and you must respect and adhere to these rulings, else you will likely find yourself in hot water when you land on the other side!
Any bottles of liquid you wish to take on the plane with you in your carry-on luggage must not exceed 100ml in size, and all bottles must be put in a clear Ziplock bag and kept at hand for separate inspection when going through Security and X-Ray checks. Anything bigger than 100ml must go in your hold luggage.
Why using Nicotine Pouches when travelling is the best option
If you hadn’t already gathered by now, it’s pretty clear why using Nicotine Pouches when flying is the most convenient and stress-free option to get your Nicotine fix.
As stated, E-Cigarette use is not allowed on planes, and you will have to go the duration of passing through security, the duration of your flight, and then getting through all checks and baggage claim on the other side before you can use your e cigarette and get your hit of Nicotine. And this is after you’ve put your device back together, found your bottle of vape juice and filled it up before you can use it!
However, if you opted to use Nicotine Pouches, you can keep them at hand in your cabin bag, and just pop one in your mouth at any time during your flight, sit back and relax while the nicotine is absorbed into your blood stream, making your flight more enjoyable thanks to not abstaining from Nicotine for a prolonged period of time.
I hope this guide has helped answer any questions you may have had regarding travelling with your nicotine pouches. And I must stress, always check the guidelines set out by the airport you’re travelling from, as well as the airlines you’re using as they may be different.
And it’s absolutely essential you check the laws and regulations surrounding Nicotine Pouch usage in your destination country you’re flying to as some countries have specific laws surrounding the use of nicotine pouches, with some even banning the use of them by people, so don’t abuse the system and be on the wrong side of the law as that is one quick way to ruin your holiday and fast!
